There is an interesting story behind the Original Penguin brand and the Pete the Penguin logo. The clothing brands creator, Abbot Pederson, stumbled across a Manhattan shop window full of stuffed penguins. He couldn't resist buying one and took Pete the Penguin back with him on his flight home to Minneapolis. During the middle of the flight, Pete's head came off and was kindly picked up by a passing stewardess. The stewardess took Abbot's tie and used it to put Pete's head back on. She made a remark stating that the smart Penguin deserved to be embt was wearing. Abbot wasand this event inspired him to put the Pete the Penguin logo on a golf shirt and the Original Penguin brand was born.

Having started in 1955 the Original Penguin brand has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity since 2000 thanks to the clothings timeless appeal. Today's range of Original Penguin clothing has been reworked to incorporate a blend of modern style and classic designs. The brand now produces a wide range of clothing and accessories including suits, shoes, watches, belts and hats. There are now also ranges for both women and children. The Original Penguin polo shirt is still at the heart of the brand with the majority of trousers, shorts and knitwear accompanying practically every style.
